About Real Calorie Tracker
Real Calorie Tracker is a free calorie, macro and meal-planning tracker for people who cook for themselves and their families. It runs on the web and as an iPhone and Android app. You can log a meal in seconds, plan the week's dinners with your partner, and see exactly how much protein, carbohydrate, fat and fibre you ate, without wading through ads in the middle of your diary or paying for basic features.
Why we built it
Most calorie apps make you guess. A "serving" of rice means something different in every database, home-cooked recipes are hard to log, and when one person cooks for the whole family, everyone ends up logging the same meal by hand. We wanted a tracker that's accurate by default, treats home cooking as a first-class citizen, and lets a family share recipes and a meal plan while each person keeps their own goals.
How the numbers work
Every food is stored as nutrition per 100 grams, the way food-composition tables and labels are written. Household portions like "1 medium banana" or "1 cup of cooked rice" are converted to grams first, so a portion is always consistent with the per-100 g values. Logging by weight gives you exact numbers.
- Generic foods come from USDA FoodData Central and standard food-composition tables.
- Packaged and branded products come from Open Food Facts, a collaborative database of product labels.
- Recipes are calculated from their ingredients, per serving.
Our food database has dedicated pages for 241 everyday foods, from bananas and eggs to roti, dal and paneer, each with calories and macros per 100 g and per common portion.
What it does
- Log food by grams or by serving, scan barcodes, copy yesterday's meals and save your regular meals.
- Save recipes (or import them from a link) with exact per-serving nutrition.
- Plan the week's meals and get a shopping list, shared with your family.
- Track water, weight, steps, workouts and programs, and see which muscles you trained.
- Track supplements and medication with reminders, daily, weekly or monthly.
Our principles
- Free. The core app is free. Ads on our public web pages keep it that way; the signed-in app has none.
- Private. Your diary, health and family data are never sold or used for advertising. See our privacy policy.
- No account needed. You can start logging on the web straight away; an account is only needed to sync and share.
Not medical advice
Real Calorie Tracker gives general nutrition and fitness information. It isn't a substitute for advice from a doctor or registered dietitian, especially if you're pregnant, managing a medical condition, or taking medication.
